COUNTER demonstration to oppose the National Front march in Newcastle. We meet at the Monument at 10:30. The NF meet at about 11 am at Law Courts on the quayside to march up Dean Street and then to the Bigg Market.

17 &18 April
Northern TUC Annual Regional Conference at the Old Assembly Rooms, Newcastle debating the issues which are of significance to the region, including Manufacturing and Skills, Anti-Racism and Equality, Regional Government and the importance of a developing and continued Social Dialogue. Agencies Against Racist Crime and Harassment present Flight Paths by Kathleen McCreery Touring schools and community centres north-east, this excellent play (and workshop) is a catalyst for debate and discussion around the subject of asylum seekers, refugees and issues relating to dispersal, identity and racism. The production is a very powerful piece of theatre and is effective in raising issues and stimulating questions for the audience. There are approximately 71,000 prisoners in Turkish prisons today. Among these, more than 10,000 are political prisoners.
