Byker and Newcastle Waste (BAN Waste) exists to support a sustainable waste strategy for Newcastle based on the principle that resource recovery should be at the heart of that strategy and that the burning or landfill of waste should be a last resort. [more info] [top]

Community Waste Network North East aim to facilitate the achievement of zero waste in the North East through community engagement, empowerment of groups and individuals, and influence on policy and legislation locally, regionally and nationally. [more info] [top]

Friends of the Earth North East is one part of Friends of the Earth England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Consisting of a regional office with a full-time staff member and a growing network of local groups, we work to improve and protect the environment of the North East for present and future generations through campaigning, influencing policy and supporting people locally to take action where they live. The North East of England Green Party actively supports non-violent campaigning on green issues: protesting from the outside is necessary. However, getting inside the council chambers and assemblies where decisions are made is what really makes the difference. We contest elections at all levels of government, even though the voting system for most British elections is unfair. [more info] [top]

North East Campaign Event is a roughly fortnightly email which lists campaign events that are going on in North East England (Northumberland, Tyneside, Wearside, Co. Durham, & Tees Valley). [more info] [top]

South Tyneside Friends of the Earth is a local group of the national Friends of the Earth organisation. We campaign on issues afecting the public of South Tyneside, opposing what we think are bad ideas (e.g. more roads, exposed landfill sites and building on greenfield) and promoting what we think are good ideas (e.g. local organic food, good public transport, recycling). We have recently been involved in the Temple Park campaign (opposing the plans to build a 'superschool' on a large green space in the middle of South Shields). [more info] [top]

Toon Freecycle group is part of the worldwide Freecycle Network, which is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It's a grassroots movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns. Instead of chucking old unwanted items into landfill, use Toon Freecycle to give them to someone who can use them! [more info] [top]

The Tyne Crossings Alliance is a group of organisations and concerned individuals opposing the proposed construction of a second road tunnel under the River Tyne. The Alliance endeavours to make the proposers of the tunnel scheme, Tyne & Wear PTA, see sense and investigate better, safer and more environmentally friendly transport solutions. [more info] [top]
